Whalen's father is Lord Walder Frey and his mother was Lady Alyssa Blackwood. He has two brothers and two sisters, named "Lame Lothar", Jammos, Morya and "The Maid". He had twenty-four half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Stevron, Martyn, Ryger, Ronel, Emmon, Aenys, Jared, Luceon, Walder, Melwys, Hosteen, Symond, Danwell, Merrett, Geremy, Raymund, Perwyn, Benfrey, Willamen, Olyvar, Wendel, Colmar, Waltyr, Elmar, Jeyne, Mellara, Perriane, Lythene, Roslin, Arwyn and Shirei.
