Eleanor, known as Beth, was born in June 1900.  Beth's father was George Adams Clayton and her mother was Annie Clayton (Hogg).  Her paternal grandparents were Frederic Clayton and Jane Elizabeth Clayton (Smith); her maternal grandparents were Robert Hogg and NN Hogg. She had two brothers and a sister, named Ernest, Robert and Nan.  She was the youngest of the four children.
