Alan was born in 1913. Alan's father was Ardell Jason BRIEN and his mother was Edith WICKHAM.  His maternal grandparents were Henry WICKHAM and Elizabeth Adelaide HUGHES. He had a brother and two sisters, named Cyril, Myrtle and Ida.  He was the oldest of the four children.
