Stephen was born on March 19th, 1788 in Franklin Co, GA.  Stephen's father was Thomas Cotham and his mother was Elizabeth Griffin. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Moses Paine, William E., Isaac, Elizabeth (Lizzie), Sarah and Annea.  He died at the age of 40 on March 21st, 1828 in Hickman, TN.
