Assunta was born on August 15th, 1929.  Assunta's father was Giuseppe Lazzara and her mother was Francesca Licata.  Her paternal grandparents were Salvatore Lazzara and Cristina Sinagra; her maternal grandparents were Antonio Licata and Anna Aletto. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Salvatore, Michele, Antonino, Cristina, Anna, Carmela and Maria.  Carmela and Assunta were twins.
