John was born in 1714 in Saint Stephens, Northumberland, Virginia, United States.  John's father was John Lewis and his mother was Elizabeth Christopher.  His paternal grandparents were John Lewis and Martha Mary Garner; his maternal grandparents were Robert Christopher and Anne Christopher?. He had three brothers and a sister, named William, Corbin, Griffin and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 32 on January 13th, 1746 in Saint Stephens Parish, Northumberland, Virginia, United States.
