Henry was born in 1786 in , Craven, North Carolina, USA.  Henry's father was John Ives and his mother was Mary Willis.  His paternal grandparents were Job Ives and Courtney Howard; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Willis and Rebecca Willis ?. He had six brothers and a sister, named Henry, John, William, Lewis C, Frederick, Elijah and Susannah.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 58 in 1844 in , Craven, North Carolina, USA.
