Gunder was born in 1783.  Gunder's father was Ole Gunderson and his mother was Anne Jonsdotter.  His paternal grandparents were Gunder Rasmusson and Inger Jonsdotter. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Jon, Jon, Johanne, Inger, Eli and Johanne.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 63 in 1846 in Eide i Gloppen.
