Martha was born in 1772.  Martha's father was William B. Gamblin and her mother was Susanah (Sara) Cole Wells.  Her paternal grandparents were William Gamblin and Mary Givan; her maternal grandparents were John Cole and Agnes (Aggie) Rayborn. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Joshua, Keziah, John F., Sion, Sara and Mary.  She was the sixth oldest of the seven children.
