Anders was born in 1804 in Egge i Breim.  Anders' father was Anton Larson and his mother was Ragnille Borresdotter.  His paternal grandparents were Lars Olson and Anne Antonsdotter; his maternal grandparents were Borge Ellingson and Brite Olsdotter. He had three brothers and a sister, named Peder, Ole, Bertel and Brite.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.
