Thomas was born in 1776 in Gravenor, Shropshire.  Thomas' father was Thomas Edwards and his mother was Elizabeth Griffiths.  His paternal grandfather was Edward Edwards and his paternal grandmother is (Mother); his maternal grandparents are Griffith Griffiths and (Mother). He had five brothers and a sister, named John, William, Edward, Samuel, William and Margaret.  He is the oldest of the seven children. He had five half-brothers and a half-sister, named Thomas, John, William, Edward, William and Margaret.
