Her paternal grandparents were Francois Petrus van Blerk and Elizabeth Maryna Magrietha Pretorius (van Blerk). She has two brothers and a sister, named Willem Sternberg, Hendrik Stephanus and Elizabeth Maryna. She is the oldest of the four children.-
