Nicolaas Gerrit Alfred was born in Kogelfontein, Simons Town. Nicolaas Gerrit Alfred's father was Nicolaas Johannes van Blerk and his mother was Elizabeth Henrietta Frieslaar (van Blerk). His paternal grandparents were Johannes Andries van Blerk and Johanna Maria Wessels (van Blerk). He had a brother and a sister, named Douglas John Harry and Helena Johanna Maria. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Robert George, Henry Lancaster and Lavinia Jane. He died due to in 1886 in Simons Town, Cape. Died very young. He was buried in Simonstown, Seaforth Old burying grounds.-
