Francis Gertrude was born in 1907 in Cape Town. Francis Gertrude's father was Johannes Everhardus van Blerk and her mother was Gertrude Miria Ann Loubser (van Blerk). Her paternal grandparents were Adriaan Christiaan Dirk van Blerk and Wilhelmina de Villiers (van Blerk). She had three brothers and three sisters, named Andrew Fred Charles, Bert, Cicil, Jane, Kate Daniels and Minnie Serra. She died at the age of 45 on May 3rd, 1952 in St.Joseph's Nursing Home, Port Elizabeth.
