Her maternal grandparents were Marthinus Samuel van Blerk and Elizabeth Susanna Johanna Frylinck (van Blerk). She had two brothers and five sisters, named Marthinus Samuel, Lewis Daniel, Elizabeth Johanna Susanna, Johaana Elizabeth, Anna Jacoba, Hester Ceciia and Magdelena Maria.-
