John was born on April 15th, 1833 in Burston, Norfolk.  John's father was William TURNER and his mother was Rebekah WOODROW.  His maternal grandparents were Samuel WOODROW and Elizabeth GIBBS. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Elijah, Alfred, Caroline, Emma and Clara.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
