Henry was born in 1863 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  Henry's father was Edward MAY and his mother was Ellen.  His paternal grandparents were William MAY and Mary. He had a brother and three sisters, named William E, Harriett E, Alice M A and Ann M.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
