Eliza was born on December 23rd, 1838 in St Luke, Middlesex. Eliza's father was William George LOCKYER and her mother was Emma.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard LOCKYER and Elizabeth Catherine MILLER. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Henry, James, Frederick, Edmund, Alfred, Emma and Ann.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
