Martin was born on November 9th, 1817 in Romsey, England, UK.  Martin's father was Martin EFFAMEY and his mother was Elizabeth HARDING.  His paternal grandparents were Martin EFFEMEY and Mary CROCKER; his maternal grandparents were William HARDING and Hannah RAY. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Stephen, William, Jane, Fanny, Elizabeth, Betsey, Mary Ann and Louisa.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 61 in 1880 in Romsey District.
