Susan was born on August 20th, 1841 in Dumbarton, UK.  Susan's father was John BURNS and her mother was Susan MCMILLAN.  Her maternal grandparents were MCMILLAN and <Unknown>. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Ephraim O, Edward, John, Daniel, Agnes, Rosanna, Margaret and Catherine.  She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
