Edward was born on August 10th, 1835 in Dumbarton, UK.  Edward's father was John BURNS and his mother was Susan MCMILLAN.  His maternal grandparents were MCMILLAN and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Ephraim O, John, Daniel, Agnes, Susan, Rosanna, Margaret and Catherine.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.
