Matthew was born in 1700 in East Sutton, Kent.  Matthew's father was Matthew BONNY and his mother was Sarah MEDCALF.  His paternal grandparents were Alexander BONNY and Martha BUTCHER. He had two brothers and a sister, named Alexander, Thomas and Dorothy.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
