  • John and Sarah's farm was located in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, where all but two of their children were born. Around 1754 they moved to a farm in Kensington, New Hampshire, close to or possibly across the Kingston line. He does not appear in the Association Test. By 1790, according to the census of that year, very much of his family had married and moved away. His will, dated 1787, mentions his wife, Sarah, as well as children, Mehitable, Abigail, Elizabeth, Nathaniel and a grandson by the name of Samuel Barnard. His son Nathaniel was executor of both of his parent's wills. Robert P. Dow seemed confident with the list of Jonathan's children, which he found in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire. He could not, however, place a Reuben Dow of Kensington, who appears in the Census of 1790, as well as a few scattering mentions as a prominent citizen. The early Kensington records were apparently in deplorable conditions by the 1920's. He points out that Kensington genealogy would be hopeless were it not for Reverend Jeremiah Fogg, who kept his own records of births, baptisms, marriages and deaths at which he officiated.
