Herbert Henry Dow

Herbert was born on March 10th, 1866 in Canada. Herbert's father was Joseph Henry Dow and his mother was Sarah Jane Bunnell. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Dow and Abigail French; his maternal grandparents are Capt Alva Bunnell and <Unknown>. He had three sisters named Mary, Abby and Helen. He was the oldest of the four children. He died after 1917.

  Excerpt from newsclipping from March 16, 1917:
  
  Herbert H. Dow is making synthetic indigo at the rate of 400 lbs daily. This is the first made in the United States. The Government dyestuff expert reports the American consumption as about 35,000 lbs a day, all of which has been imported.
