John was born in 1783 in Fayetta co. Pennsylvania.  John's father was Richard Tennant and his mother was Elizabeth Haught.  His paternal grandfather was Richard Tennant and his paternal grandmother is Janet Wark. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named Peter, Richard II, William, Alexander, Joseph S., Adam, Abraham, Jacob Aron, Mary, Elizabeth, Margaret Ann, Catherine and Sarah Catherine.  He died after 1850.
