Leendert was born on June 24th, 1827 in , Strijen, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands.1   Leendert's father was Jacob Monster and his mother is Neltje Noorlander.  His paternal grandparents were Pieter Janszoon MONSTER and Maria Jansdochter FORTUIJN; his maternal grandparents are Eldert NOORLANDER and Lijntje JABAAIJ. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Pieter, Eldert, Jacob, Hendrik, Jan, Cornelis, Johannes and Lijntje.  He was the youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 90 on March 2nd, 1918.
