Catherine Josephine's father was George Hiram Kerr and her mother was Margaret O'Callaghan.  Her paternal grandfather was William Kerr and her paternal grandmother is Margaret Darling; her maternal grandparents are John Dennis O'Callaghan and Mary Ellen. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William "Ted" Edmond, Cecil George, John Dennis Francis, Francis Hilda, Muriel Maude and Eileen Margaret.
