LETTERS: Cedar Valley, Utah June 26th 1899 - to Mr. James Rodeback, Richfield, Utah; Dear Uncle Jim: Mr. Frank Anderson of Salt Lake, son of Dr. Anderson is writing up a genealogy of the Evans family and he has written to me to send him the history of the Rodeback family. He wants the names of all Grandma's children also the date of their birth and marriage also the dates of the births, marriges, and deaths of their children and grandchildren. Will you please write at once and send me the names, dates of births etc., of your own and Aunt Kats family. We are all well and preparing to have a big celebration her on the 4th. Hoping you are the same. I remain your afffectionate niece, Mabel Crafts - All join in sending love to you all.  Richfield July 9th /99 - Miss Mabel Crafts, Cedar Valley, Utah. Dear Niece, Yours of the 26th received some time ago but have been very busy. Was glad to heare that you folks are all well this leaves us the same. Now fore the names - James Rodeback born Feb 20th 1853 - Married Jan 19th 74, James Allen Rodeback borne Feb 19th 1875, Joseph Herbert & Mary Almina born Dec 4th 1876, Edward Ray borne Nov 12th 1878, Don Carlos borne March 17th 1881, Ann Edith borne Feb 7th 1883, Hazle Bell borne May 19th 1885 died, November 13th 1889, William Weeks Rodeback born April 5th 1887, Lexie Lorana born Nov 25th 1889, Roxie Rebecca born April 18th 1893, Mina married Sept 14th 1898. These two letters are in one envelope addressed to Mrs. James Rodeback - Raymond, Alberta, Canada. On the back of the envelope, written in pencil is the following; Lorane H. Weeks Rodeback - Archibald Weeks my fathers uncle.  LIFE SKETCH: James Rodeback was the son of James and Phebe Beagle Rodeback. He was born February 20, 1853 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He was the seventh child and their third son. He was a twin, his twin sister was given the name of Sarah Jane and she died the day she was born. At the age of two years old his family moved to Cedar Fort, Utah and he lived there until he was forty years old. On January 19, 1874 he married Lorana Hannah Weeks, daughter of Allen and Sarah Jane Bennett Weeks of Cedar Fort, in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a hardy, hard working, God fearing and kind man. In Cedar Fort he was Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was very musical, and on the long winter evenings he played the banjo and sang with his beautiful bass voice. He sang in the choir also. In 1893 he sold his home and farm and moved his family to a cattle ranch in Sevier County at Prattsville. He and his sons worked for his brother-in-law, which was located between Richfield and Glenwood. While living in Richfield he was the Marshall. In the spring of 1901, James resigned his job as Marshall and moved his family to Raymond, Alberta, Canada to homestead some land there. they began their pioneering again. He built a three room lean-to as building materials were very expensive. They also had a good size tent in the yard for some of the children to sleep in. They never lived on their farm but right in the town of Raymond. One day he went out to chop a little wood so his wife could get lunch ready. She made the preparations for the meal and when he did not come back in with the wood she went out to investigate and found him dead lying on the wood pile. He died Aug 6, 1919. He was buried in Raymond.
