James was born in 1750 in East Caln, Chester Co, Penn.  James' father is William QUAINTANCE and his mother is Tamson Orson.  His paternal grandparents are John QUAINTANCE and Unknown; his maternal grandfather was George ORSON. He had seven brothers, and also a sibling of unknown gender named John, George, George, William, Joseph, John, William and George.  He died at the age of 85 in 1835 in East Caln, Chester, Pa.
