Jean was born on February 26th, 1680 in Rillaar.  Jean's father was Marcus Vleminx and his mother was Adriana Nys.  His paternal grandparents were Philippus Vleminck and Maria Milis; his maternal grandparents were Anthoen Nys and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Marcus, Sébastien, Michel, Anne, Marie, Anne, Anne and Anne.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.
