Samuel was born on October 23rd, 1753 in Stonham Aspall, Suffolk. Samuel's father was Ruben Bridges and his mother was Rachel Sewel. His paternal grandparents were William Bridges and Dinah; his. He was the oldest of six children. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, James, Ruben, Mary and Dinah. He died, at the age of 15 years, in year 1768.
