John was born in July 1647 in St Enoder, Cornwall and was baptised on August 8th, 1647. John's father was Thomas Bullock and his mother was Dorothy Pearce. His paternal grandparents were Richard Bullock and Agnes; his maternal grandparents were John Pearce and Grace. He was the fourth of six children. He had a brother and four sisters, named Thomas, Joan, Joane, Dorothie and Ann.
