Charles was born in year 1900 in Suffolk, Ipswich.  Charles' father was Albert (Bertie) Arthur David Bridges and his mother was Mrs Elizabeth Mary Ann Coad.  His paternal grandparents were Arthur Bridges and Elizabeth Fox; his maternal grandparents were  James Peter Coad and  Mary Ann Maryon.  He was the sixth of seven children.  He had four brothers and two sisters, named Ernest, Wilfred, Frederick, Stanley, Mary and Ethel.
