Viola was born on September 13th, 1908.  Viola's father was Edward Thiering and her mother was Ida Diedrich.  Her paternal grandparents were Carl William Thiering and Magretha Graves. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Rajmond, Calvin , Amanda and Geraldine.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
