Clara was born in 1895.  Clara's father was Detlef Hans Thiering and her mother was Emilie Oldenburg.  Her paternal grandparents were Hans Thiering and Catherina Horn. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Charles, Lawrence, Sophia and <Unknown>.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
