August was born in July 1877.  August's father was Bernard Thiering and his mother was Johanna Miller.  His paternal grandparents were Hans Thiering and Catherina Horn. He had a brother and three sisters, named Fred, Sophia, Emma and Bessi.  He was the second youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 62 on May 13th, 1940 in Davenport US.1
