János' father was István Asbóth and his mother was Zsuzsanna Kovács.  His paternal grandparents were Asbóth and <Unknown>. He had four brothers named István, Mihály, György and Ferenc.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named István and Éva.
