General Notes

Note: Christened Johann Adam Conrad Kroell. Adam and Christina were married in the Evangelical Church with the ceremony being performed by Christina's brother, John Schnellbacher. Adam and Christina moved from Ohio to Madison County, Iowa in the mid1850's, probably in the party of settlers led by Anna's brother, John. During the winter of 1858-59, they moved back to Ohio where they remained for eight years, returning to Madison County in 1867. In Madsion County, Adam and Christina weremembers of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Adam was also a member of the I.O.O.F. He is buried in the Pleasant View (formerly Walker) cemetery. Adam's brother John joined him in Iowa in 1875.

Adam is listed in the second contingent of early settlers in Webster Township, along with O.H. Smith, Cass Shaw, F.M. Walker, H.G. Milligan, John Schnellbacher, Henry Wissler, J.H. Krell, Joshua Aikins, Joseph Steele, E.M. Richmond, Charles Gaynorand the Orrises.

Listed in 1879 Directors of the Agricultural Society, which planned the county fair. "Madison County has an enterprising agricultural society and is noted for the excellence of county fairs. The society was organized in 1856,..It is said thatnearly every person in the county was present, and that it was the most thoroughly enjoyable fair ever held. From the first a lively interest was taken in the fairs and the society was fortunate in having its offices in the hands of good men."
