Hari was born on March 25th, 1948.  Hari's father is Sudharmo and his mother is Wanito.  His paternal grandparents were Sukarno Sastrohamidjojo and Sri Andikin. He had a brother and three sisters, named Drs Hari, Dwi, Huni Lestari and Huni Darwani.  He is the oldest of the five children.
