Thomas was born in 1832.  Thomas' father was John Squires and his mother was Ann Bradley.  His paternal grandparents were Roger Squires and Ciciley Willan. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Isaac, John, William, Elizabeth, Anne, Mary, Anne, Agnes, Alice, Isabella and Margaret.  He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.
