Velma was born on September 20th, 1917.  Velma's father was James Thomas Emery and her mother was Ida Myrtle Worman (Emery).  Her paternal grandparents were George Mac and Laura Ann Barry (Emery). She had three brothers and two sisters, named James, Everett, Wilber, Wilma and Rosalie.  She is the third oldest of the six children.
