Martín's father was Miguel Gomez de La Puerta (Saravia) and his mother was Beatriz Luiz Figueroa (Hernandez).  His paternal grandparents were Antón Gomez de (Saravia) and Catalina de  (La Puerta); his maternal grandparents were Benito Luiz Figueroa (Pavia) and Magdalena Hernandez (de Los Reyes). He had three brothers and six sisters, named Benito, Miguel, Juan, María Isabel, María, Ursula, Isabel, Beatriz and Lucia.
