Santiago was born on November 19th, 1676 in Arrancudiaga.  Santiago's father was Santiago Goicohechea (Uribarri) and his mother was Francisca Belaunca (Agirre).  His paternal grandparents were Jhoan Goicohechea (Echebarria) and Maria Uribarri (Eguiondo). He had three brothers and two sisters, named Juan, Domingo, Santiago, Magdalena and Magdalena.  He was the youngest of the six children.
