Albert was born in 1887 in Treuddyn, Flint, Wales.  Albert's father was Robert Edwards and his mother was Jane Matthews.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Edwards and Margaret Roberts. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Meredith, Charles H, Stanley, Anne, Catherine, Alice, Nesta, Elizabeth and Margaret.  He was the nineth oldest of the ten children.
