Gene Dempsey Byrd, 85, of Lamar, died Jan. 16, 2014, at his home. He was the widower of Minnie Wylie Byrd and an assembler at Troxel. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 18 at Slayden Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Rusty Fair and Bro. Frank Feathers officiated. Burial was in Slayden Cemetery. He leaves a son, Barry Byrd (Sharon) of Slayden; two daughters, Judy Roberts (Norris) of Slayden, Teresa West (Eric) of Collierville, Tenn.; four brothers, James Byrd, Thomas Byrd, Charles Byrd, all of Lamar, Larry Byrd of Mississippi; two sisters, Connie Gammel, Virginia German, both of Somerville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
