Hastwell W was born in 1829 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England.1   Hastwell W's father was Richard Thornton and his mother was Elizabeth (Thornton).  He had three brothers and six sisters, named Henry, George, Richard, Martha Jane, Mary, Anna E, Catherine, Helen and Octavia.  He was the third oldest of the ten children.  He died in Canada.
