Dorothy was born in 1831 in Kettlewell, Yorkshire, England.1   Dorothy's father was Unknown Summers and her mother was Elizabeth (Summers).  She had two brothers named John and William.  She was the oldest of the three children.  She had a half-sister named Sarah Ellen.
