Richard George was born in 1862 in Crosshills, Yorkshire, England.1   Richard George's father was Charles Petty and his mother was Mary Webster.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Petty and Margaret (Petty).  He had six brothers named Francis William, Charles H, Walter Webster, Allan Isaac, Joshua Somerset and Edward Lionel.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
