Thomas Newis

Thomas was born in 1820 in Bishop Thornton, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.¹ Thomas' father was Robert Newis and his mother was Sara (Newhouse). His paternal grandfather was Robert Newhouse. He had two brothers and two sisters, named James, Joseph, Jane and Ellen. He was the second oldest of the five children.

  It is possible that he had been married twice, if so then both wifes were called Mary. He did not marry Mary Gow until 1849, by which time he already had three children, unless of course there was a prev wife.
