Joseph was born about April 1841 in Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire.¹

Joseph's father was John Seddon and his mother was Ann THOMASON. His maternal grandparents were RICHARD THOMASON and NANCY STONES. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Peter, John, Nancy and Mary. He was the fourth oldest of the five known children. He died before 1851.
